What are the Best Foods for Bodybuilding

The experts all agree that taking in around one gram of protein per pound of bodyweight is the best way to get results from hard training. This advice does not come with exactly what the best types of proteins or carbohydrates and fats we should take in on a regular basis so we will go through a few pointers on how to identify bodybuilding foods.

First we will concentrate on proteins, which are the backbone of getting any adequate repair to your muscles after a hard and intense workout in the gym or at home. Proteins should always be in the form of lean or low fat whenever possible if you want to gain muscle and lose fat.

At the top of the list must be egg whites with each egg white containing six grams of extremely good high quality protein. Often bodybuilders will have around six egg whites with two yolks which will give you 26.5 grams of protein with zero carbs and 5.23 grams of fat, all of this for only 153 calories.

The next good bodybuilding food must be chicken as any single piece 6 ounce chicken breast will give you 35 grams of protein with only 4 grams of fat. The next is cottage cheese that is a great source for getting casein protein. This protein is released slowly into your bloodstream and aids recovery time.

Fish, turkey and lean meat are also a great bodybuilding foods because they will have high protein values with a very low fat content as well as very low calories like when cooking fish. One needs to take care in the preparation of these foods with no frying but to grill rather.

When it comes to carbohydrates that are bodybuilding foods then it needs to be complex carbohydrates or low GI (glycemic index) foods. This means that it will use the maximum amount of calories to get digested and will not spike your insulin levels and deposit fat.

Foods like whole bran oats and whole-wheat bread like pumpernickel bread. They say the heavier the bread is the better it is for you. Other slow burning carbs are foods like sweet potato that will help to sustain your muscles when you are putting yourself through a tough workout.

Foods like bananas and asparagus must also be added to the list of bodybuilding foods because of the natural diuretic properties of both asparagus and bananas. They are also able to help maintain the body's balance of electrolytes. The balance between the amount of sodium and potassium in your body will be the factor that shows how ripped or cut you get when competing.
